| Q. |
Why
should my business have a Web site? |
| |
|
| A. |
A Web site can do many
things for a business depending on what your goals
are for the site. Your site can exist as a "billboard"
advertising to info-highway travelers, an electronic
"brochure" that describes what your
business is all about, or it can even be an online
"store" where customers can make purchases
and take delivery of goods and services. One thing
is certain -- an on-line presence has become essential
for your business, or the service you provide.
It is as necessary as a postal address, telephone
and fax number. |

| Q. |
What
is a domain name and what does it cost to get
one? |
| |
|
| A. |
A domain name is a
two-part Web address unique to your specific Web
site, such as www.yourbusinessname.com. These
addresses, much like a postal address, let people
find your site. Domain names must be registered
before they will work on the Internet. We can
register your domain name for you. Once registered,
no one can take the address from you unless you
let your registration lapse. An initial 2-year
domain name registration costs $70.00. After 2
years, however, your domain name will be up for
renewal. It costs $35 per year after the first
two years your site is registered. You will be
responsible for these registration fees. |

What
will I need to provide Greene Web Design in order
to have my Web site developed? |
| |
|
| A. |
In short, just about
all the marketing information you already have
developed including your logos, current company
information, product catalogs, prices, brochures,
photographs, images, and anything else you desire
to publish on your Web site. During our consultations
with you, you will also provide us with guidance
as to your targeted market. All this helps us
create the site you want. If possible, it will
benefit us both greatly if you have all the materials
we need in digital format. Text should be in plain
text (Notepad), Wordpad, or MS
Word format; Photos and images should be in either
.jpg or .gif formats (although we can handle most
other digital formats). If you present your material
on a disk, the disk needs to be formatted for
IBM PC's or compatible for us to open. Digital materials
can also be e-mailed to us. |

|
| Q. |
Who
owns the Web site when it's completed? Can I transfer
it to a different Web service provider later on? |
| |
|
| A. |
Greene Web Design operates
as a creator and we retain the copyright to original
Web page designs, graphics, and programs created
for our clients. This is consistent with United
States & International copyright law and also
with industry practices in graphic arts and advertising.
It also allows us to defend material we publish
online against unauthorized use and appropriation
by third parties. Our client contract grants unlimited
usage rights to our clients for anything we develop
for them, as long as that information is used
only for Internet publication, and as long as
a design credit and link is provided to Greene
Web Design. This means that you are free to place
your Web pages and graphics on any service provider
or hosting firm, or on your own Web server.
This copyright ownership provision does not
apply to any materials you provide us that we
publish without modification. One example would
be a company logo that we scan and publish without
any changes. Another example would be an article
or newsletter that we publish for you in HTML
format. You would retain full copyright to the
text content, but we retain copyright to the
HTML code and the overall design of the Web
page and/or site. |

| Q. |
What
is "site maintenance" and who is responsible
for it? |
| |
|
| A. |
One of the great things
about publishing on the Web is that page content
can be easily changed. For example, suppose your
online store decides on a sale price for an item.
You'll have to change the price on your Web site,
and maybe even change your home page to let visitors
know that the item is on sale. Frequently updating
your site keeps it fresh and alive and visitors
to your site will appreciate your timely updates.
These changes are instantly available to your
visitors. You also may need to delete information
or even add more information in the form of extra
pages to your site. All this falls under "site
maintenance". You are responsible for site
maintenance. However, we can do the necessary
changes for you according to your direction. Since
we designed, developed, and published your site,
we have full command and knowledge of the code
and site structure. This allows Greene Web Design
to provide the most cost effective site maintenance
for sites that we develop. |
